Due to the arrival of COVID-19 in Panama last March 2020, the Colon Free Zone, the first free trade zone in the Western Hemisphere, remained closed for more than five months. The National Government ordered the opening of operations within that free trade zone on September 7, 2020. On September 10, Moran IP organized the first operation to combat trademark infringement, where the Panama Intellectual Property Prosecutor Office , with the support of the National Police, seized approximately 10,000 counterfeit goods of different brands. This is the first operation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office in COVID19 times. Moran IP is committed to protect the brands and to combat the illicit trade in Panama and in Latin America.
