On May 20, 2020, the Ministry of Security of Panama has communicated that 820 anonymous tips have been received on the Crime Stoppers Panama website from January to May 17, 2020. These tips have allowed law enforcement to seize important shipments of drugs and other illicit products. During COVID-19, anonymous tips were increased to 165 related to drugs and 188 for domestic violence.

Among other tips received are the following:

  • 85 complaints for corruption
  • 64 for money laundering
  • 64 for money laundering
  • 55 for extortion
  • 47 for cigarette smuggling
  • 44 for animal abuse
  • 34 for human trafficking and 37 for use of illegal weapons
  • 25 crimes of trademark counterfeiting and other crimes within the Colon Free Zone
  • 24 related to crime against the environment and 18 cases of homicides / femicides.
