He has an understanding of the judicial system and a clear knowledge of the trends and precedents of Panamanian IP Courts. Hugo also has a large experience in brand protection and anti-counterfeiting strategies in Panama and Latin America, handling the brand protection activities for brand owners. Hugo has been ranked by Chambers and Partners “as a great attorney and one of the best for infringements cases”. His recent work includes notable anti-counterfeiting cases”. In 2018, Hugo was included in the list as one of the best anti-counterfeiting experts in Latin America in The WTR 1000 publication. He is also a contributor and support member of the World IP Review.

Hugo is an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) as a member of the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee. Hugo was also a member of project team of The 2015 INTA Leadership Meeting held Panama City, the first major event in Latin America, and active member of the 2016-2017 INTA Global Advisory Committee (GAC). Hugo also has supported the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC), acting as speaker in several conferences in Latin America and United States of America. He is also an active member of Crime Stoppers International, Panama Bar Association and Alliance against Counterfeit, Contraband and Illicit Trade of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Panama.

Our partner also has been involved in several legislation initiatives regarding to the illicit trade, industrial property, and pharmaceutical regulation. Recently, Hugo supported the private sector during the negotiation of Intellectual Property, Chapter of Commercial Treaty with the Popular Republic of China.
